Paul,

Thanks for the info. I'm in the midst of getting the evaluation IPTM and IPTMR copy and will be installed in our environment for testing. If this issue has not been solved by Avaya, I'm afraid during our IPTM and IPTMR test later, it will hit the same issue.

We have raised this as an issue with Avaya a few months ago and are working with them to resolve this on the One-X Communicator.

I will get back to you as soon as I know an ETA on when the fix will be available.

Further to my findings, I found out the differences between the softphone & hardphone RTCP packet

  9640(Hardphone)
SDES items
Type: CNAME (user and domain) (1)

Type: TOOL (name/version of source app) (6)

And I found out some information from Avaya documentation:

RSVP & RTCP Monitor Server - 9600 Series SIP IP Telephones do not use RSVP (Resource
ReSerVation Protocol) software to provide real-time monitoring and historical data of audio
quality for VoIP calls. 9600 Series SIP IP Telephones do support an RTCP Monitor Server.

QoS - Unlike H.323 telephones, 9600 Series SIP IP Telephones do not use Avaya
Communication Manager to set Quality of Service (QoS). The SIP IP telephones use the
parameters L2QAUD, L2QSIG, DSCPAUD, and DSCPSIG

The strange thing is my 9630 softphone details is showing Signaling Protocol:H.323 instead of SIP (above RTCP info is showing SIP instead of H.323)
Any idea?

Hi Paul,

To answer your questions.

1. Yes, I realised there were missing voice streams on the main PBX display page for softphones. RTCP configuration, Ip network region of the RTCP destinaation are correct.

2. Yes, the count was incorrect as I mentioned the RTCP only capture voice stream for calls made uses hard phone.

3. I have done the wireshark capturing for softphone, media gateway, hard phone and prognosis. At 1st, the wireshark did not capture any traffic for port 5005 for calls made by softphone. After upgrading my one-X communicator to release 5.2 with SP3 (5.2.0.19), I was able to see traffic uses port 5005 sending from the softphone to the Prognosis server. However, I'm still unable to see any active voice stream or finished calls QoS result on Prognosis server.

4. I have also done the wireshark capturing on the Prognosis server and it shows the server is communicating with the softphone on port 5005. This means, the network layer is pretty much clear and both ends are communication on port 5005.

Regards,
Nicholas

Just wanted to comment on this even though it is kind of old in case it helps anyone.

Prognosis was working when I first installed it to log on with my network username and password. Someone else in my department was also able to log on with their network credentials. Currently, our network credentials give us "User Logon Failed (Status: invalid user name password)". Now I can only log on with the local accounts that are on that server.

My password has changed since that time, but it is not locked out and I sign on my PC every day with the same credentials. I am the Active Directory administrator so I am certain of that. I even tried my old password as it was when I know it was working.

So, not really looking for a solution since I have a workaround, but hopefully this helps someone else.

Nicholas,

There are no problems with 9620 and 9630 phones and see no issue why 9650's could be an issue as they use the same H.323/RTP stacks.

When you say you are receiving RTCP information, can you please clarify a few things? Things to investigate:

   1. Are there any or missing voice streams on the main PBX display page? If so, verify the RTCP configuration. Go to the AV-PBX screen, click on Configuration then the RTCP link. This will show the number of RTCP packets received and also the configuration per ip-network-region of the RTCP destination address. You should check the correct address for each network region. If some are showing, but not all of them are showing, it is probably a issue with a particular network segment so you should check the setting for each network region.
   2. If the configuration is correct, use the RTCP Configuration screen to check the count of received RTCP packets, this will determine if Prognosis is receiving RTCP packets.
   3. If Prognosis is not receiving any RTCP packets, check that the server is receiving them. Install Wireshark and perform a packet capture filtering on port 5005 to see if RTCP packets are being received - they may initially show up as UDP port 5005, but you can 'decode as' RTCP in Wireshark.
   4. If the Prognosis server is not receiving any RTCP packets, there is potentially a firewall issue, on the PC or in the network, or a routing/VLAN issue. Please check connectivity to the phone from the Prognosis server. Firstly try and ping/traceroute the phone from the Prognosis server. If this is successful, you may need to investigate any firewall rules for UDP.

Can you please inform us of which step you are encountering issues?

Thanks,
Paul

Nicholasss,

It is true that there are difference between the two offerings. IPTM is a very flexible solution and you can create customized reports with that solution itself or use the preconfigured reports within IPTM Reporter.

The new VoIP Monitor 3.0 does have some enhancements to reporting but it is related to Voice Quality and provides summary data on the total number of calls per time period the report is run as well as Ave and Min values.

Nicholas,

The Entitlement version of Prognosis does not use the CDR data. The installation guide states that "The CDRs section is optional' and this is for the Entitlement version.

CDR's are predominately used at the moment for the IP Telephony Management Reporter product www.ir.com/reporter.

Prognosis VoIP Monitor does not currently allow you to use an external database for keeping records.

Another product, Prognosis IP Telephony Manager provides this functionality. If you want to know more on this product please contact your local Prognosis reseller, or contact Integrated Research directly. http://www.prognosis.com/Contact_Us/Office_locations/page__1502.aspx

One way to view if you've cofigured the RTCP destinations correctly is to view the RTCP display from within Voice Monitor. The drill down to view this is located in the Configuration display.

So, start from the main display for your Avaya PBX and drill down into the configuration display (the drill down is in the upper right hand corner of the main display). From there click on the RTCP drill down. It will show you where the switch is sending the RTCP packets. This should be the IR Voice Monitor server.

Thank you

Hi Paul,

I'm having a similar issue. But I do NOT have NAT set up for the Prognosis. The Prognosis sits on the same VLAN as Avaya CM. I'm able to see hits on the Avaya RTCP configuration however, I couldn't see anything when I click on the Finished Call (by extension). I'm expecting similar result as per the VQ demo shown.

Setup as follow,
CM located at location A network 172.17.77.x
Prognosis located at location A, network 172.17.77.xxx
CM LSP located at location B network 172.19.22.x
IP Phones located at both location A & B which has reachability to to the Prognosis at Location A (we are using softphone and ping from my laptop to Prognosis suceed)

All networks are connected together via an Operator MPLS network
CM is setup to send RTCP to 172.17.77.xxx.

Regards,
Nicholas

Thank you for the feedback. Please see the comparison page http://voicequality.com/compare

This functionality is available in the IP Telephony Manager product. You can also see voice quality by
conference, by region, by trunk,	by board, by IP address range, and by network segment.

Thanks,

We used to get to data on trunk usage with call data from the reporting server, but we are no longer getting this. We tried setting up a new collection for Trunk Usage, but it does not seem to be collecting anything.

All of our trunks are in the meas-selection form on the PABX, but still no luck. Can anyone please assit us with this???

Yes, the IP Address to configure on CM is the IP address of the PROGNOSIS server.

You should also check any firewalls in your network - the ports you need to allow are in the user guide.

You should double check that any phones are actually in the network-region 30. One way to troubleshoot is the ensure the default on the ip-options page is also set to the currect address.

If no voice streams are shown this means that you are not getting the RTCP data from the phone.

Please verify that you are receiving RTCP packets from the phones. There are two ways to verify:
1. Go to Avaya PBX screen, Click on Configuration, to the Avaya Monitoring Node page. Then click on RTCP to the Avaya RTCP Configuration page. This will show totoal RTCP apckets received.
2. Use wireshark on the PROGNOSIS serevr and filter on port 5005 (or the port configured on the PBX).

Stu,

With each new installation you can monitor 250 phones, with PBX information, boards etc... for free. You will need a separate PROGOSIS server per installation.

So the answer is Yes, you can monior boards etc, but also the first 250 phones.

VOIP Monitor appears to be useful for monitoring a number of items and not just IP Phones. This raised the following question from a colleague

If we were to install the free version of the software that Avaya bundle with each new installation can we just monitor our PBX and boards etc... without necessarily monitoring all of our IP Phones?

I have just installed and configured VOIP monitor.

When I interrogate the system on the AV-PBX tab I notice that the system has only picked up 5 port networks when I know that there are 13. This is the same on the AV-Port Network tab - only 5 are present (Port Networks 1, 2, 11, 12 & 13).

Anybody know why we are missing the remaining Port Networks (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10)

Interestingly - when I interrogate the AV-Boards tab - all Circuit Boards appear including those in the missing Port Networks.

If its any help Port Network 1 and 2 are part of a centre stage switch configuration with 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 as Expansion Port Networks.

Port Networks 11, 12 & 13 are IP connect.

Hi

I'm new to the forum and just though I would introduce myself.

I am an infrastructure Analyst at a UK retailer. We currently use Avaya CM 3.1.5 with Call Master V's and AIR 2.0

We are currently going through the process of upgrading our Avaya Estate to VOIP. We are trialing some VOIP handsets (9620' & 9650's). When we eventually upgrade we are entitled to the free 250 licenses for VOIP Monitor therefore we are also trialling VOIP Monitor.

Earlier this morning I configured the ACD and set up the VOIP Monitor. We are now going to the trial the product. First impressions are that it appears good, if a bit slow to render via the web browser.

I look forward to meeting you in the forum.

It Appears that the software will not monitor a station to station call regardless of the station types, (IP, digital or analog). I only get info for station to media processor. Is this correct? When I use Voice Streams it only displays station origination information and not terminating or incoming calls. Am I missing something?

Hi

I have Prognosis monitoring my CM master, with about 5 LSP's attached.
Every night, at about 1am, the idle LSP's perform a reload as part of a maintenance schedule.

Prognosis reports this as
1:07am "Avaya_Alert :LSP Penrose on \AVAYA-PBX has status down"
1:10am "Avaya_Alert :LSP Penrose on \AVAYA-PBX status changed"
1:10am "Avaya_Alert :LSP Penrose on \AVAYA-PBX has status up"

None of the other LSP's are reported as down, yet they all perform the same reload.
From ACM:
Internal Request 4 (RELOAD) no Active 06/30 1:01

The problem is:
The case of the little boy who cried wolf applies. Every night prognosis sends me SMS alerts, and I ignore them.

So the question is:

Is this normal behaviour?
Why would prognosis only alert on this one LSP?
Can this behaviour be changed?

Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers

It will monitor the status and availability of this trunk.

As voice traffic does not actually travel over this trunk (trunks are for signaling) there is no voice quality.

However when the RTP is sent from the media process, this is monitored.

Can VoIP monitor any of this traffic?

This alert occurs when the number of SAT connection = 0.

On the top left of of the Avaya PBX display you will see a link to 'SAT Connections 2; in the normal scenario. This means that VoIP monitor has twoa ctive SAT connections. Clicking on this link provides details about the SAT conenction including last ailure and cause.

When you receive this alert you should check this page for troubleshooting.

Hi,

Occasionally (approx once a day) we are getting an email saying 'Avaya Alert - SAT Connection dropped', I have noticed that Prognosis is logging on and off contantly and wanted to confirm if this error simply meant that a connection could not be made at that time.

We are not using the full CDR functionality as we use TIGER for that but use Prognosis as a alarm/error reporting tool.

Please could someone confirm the reason for the iconnectipn dropped error?

Thanks

Well, I was using IE 8, but I tried IE7 just now and it worked fine. I can't believe that I didn't think of that.

One other question, can I tell where I am at for usage with my license level (250 free license key)? I believe that digital and analog are at a different ratio. How do I know if the 250 will be enough?

What version of IE are you using?

What exact steps are you doing? Are you clicking on the reports link at the top (next to online and logout)? OR are you clicking on the Wroksheets link?

The RTCP comes directly from the phones, not the CM. So the PROGNOSIS server must be able to be contacted by every phone.

This could be a NAT issue that the RTCP from the phones is not getting to the PROGNOSIS server. You can verify if PROGNOSIS is receiving RTCP, by clicking from the main PBX screen (at the top of the display) Configuration the RTCP. You will see a summary of the RTCP packets being received.

I can successfully log into Progonsis and I can see the first page that is displayed. I can see my PBX and SAT connection. It shows me my alarms, phones and trunk counts. I cannot click on anything else though. If I click on my PBX, Config, Reports links, the browser switches pages and starts to load, but gets stuck and all that I see is a white page. The only thing that I can do is End Task on my IE session to stop it.

I am using the 250 free license and I did not configure the CDR section of the install guide. Is that my problem or am I missing something else? Any help would be appreciated to evaluate this software.

Hi,
I'm all new regarding the Prognosis VoIP Monitor.
So far i got it installed, and i can see that Prognosis is getting data concerning stations, trunks, alarms etc. But i have no voicestreams (RTCP?)....

Setup is as follows.
CM located at location 1 network 10.1.2.x
CM LSP located at location 2 network 10.1.16.x
Prognosis located at location 3, network 10.1.15.x with NAT remapped to 172.25.61.x
All networks are connected together via an Operator MPLS network
CM is setup to send RTCP to 10.1.15.x wihich is then translated with NAT as described above.

The setup is like this as we are a businesspartner doing all the monitoring for the customer, who hosts the telephony platform themselves and we host all manament and monitoring platforms.
Im wondering if its network related? or if i just manage something wrong?

PROGNOSIS VoIP Monitor can be installed on VMWare without issue. I run all my PROGNOSIS installs on VMWare be it IP Telephony Manager of VoIP Monitor.

It is important that the virtual machine is properly resourced inline with recommended specifications in the installation guide(page 8).

From a VMWare point of view you would be looking at making 2 cores and at least 2GB of RAM available.

Hope this helps.

The licence will expire if:
1. you have exceeded the 30day trial licence
2. you have purchased more stations from Avaya and you have exceeded your station count on PROGNOSIS. You either can monitor 250 stations, or the whole PBX. You cannot monitor a subset of the PBX.

You may want to clear you cache on IE or whatever browser you are using. It sounds like the application did not download fully. If you company proxy server is caching it you may want to ask IT to download or wait a day till the cache clears.

The exe should be 11.4MB (11,697 KB on the disk as shown in Windows Explorer).

Rashpal,

We are currently investigating ways to make this licensing more transparent and apologise for any frustration while we get to this.

The whole concept behind licensing phones is a measure of the complexity of the PBX infrastructure and is not just for monitoring physical phones. Since the NICE extensions add complexity to the system and we assume you need to monitor all stations on the PBX, these will probably be included in the license count anyway.

Are you saying that when you perform a Wireshark trace on the PROGNOSIS server you do not see any RTCP packets (or any UDP packets) being sent to 5005?

If not double check that the Sat screen 'change system-parameters ip-options' shows the correct RTCP monitor address and port.

You also need to check that RTCP is enabled in the ip-network-region that the medpro/procr board is in. You will need to check on the ip-network-region form:

RTCP Reporting Enabled? y
RTCP MONITOR SERVER PARAMETERS
     Use Default Server Parameters? y

The RCTP will only be sent on an IP leg of the call.

I am having the same sort of problem with it counting all the modem, faxes, VDN, Virtual, OPSTA and Xmobile stations. Although a modem and a fax are essentially an analog station, the PVM does not count is on the ratio of an analog station, same with the OPSTA etc. Is there a way I can tell the PVM not to monitor certain stations by ext number or type, so I do not have to buy more licenses because of a failure of the PVM to correctly recognize station types. If not is this going to be fixed in the future.

I am currently having problems with my installation of PROGNOSIS VoIP Monitor. I already completed the prerequisites and installation procedures but when I try to run the application, is indicated that one of the services (PROGNOSIS VoIP Monitor) is not running. When I try to manually run the application in services.msc, a pop-up window appears saying "The PROGNOSIS VoIP Monitor service on Local Computer started and stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example, the Performance Logs and Alerts service.". When I look at the log files, I get this entry:

Although HTTPS support is not natively supported by default for PROGNOSIS VoIP Monitor, you can enable it via a configuration change. Native HTTPS support is on the roadmap and will be delivered into the product soon.

HTTPS Web Interface Protocol

The default installation of PROGNOSIS VoIP Monitor includes the Apache Tomcat Web server. Java is also required. These components are used to run the PROGNOSIS Web interface, which by default uses HTTP protocol. However, should the secure HTTPS protocol be required some additional configuration is necessary.
Running the Web interface over HTTPS

To utilize HTTPS the following steps need to be completed:
Step 1 Generate or purchase a 'Secure Socket Layer' (SSL) certificate for the Web site and place it into the Java Keystore used by Apache Tomcat.
Step 2 Configure the SSL connector in Apache Tomcat.
Step 3 Instruct operators to use the HTTPS URL to access the Web interface (most likely the standard HTTP access will be disabled).

The setup procedures are described in detail below:

Generate or purchase the SSL certificate

The procedures for purchasing a real SSL certificate depends upon the specific provider. However, once purchased the certificate details need to be imported into the Java Keystore being used by Apache Tomcat. For details about ordering and importing the certificate see the Sun Keytool utility documentation which is available on the Sun web site. For example, for version 1.4.2 go to:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/tooldocs/windows/keytool.html

The following describes a simple procedure to generate security keys in order to test the HTTPS setup. However, this will result in browser certificate warnings.
To generate a key pair run the keytool.exe utility (located in PROGNOSIS\www\webserver\jre\bin) using the following command lines:
C:\> Cd C:\Program Files\PROGNOSIS\www\webserver\jre\bin

C:\Program Files\PROGNOSIS\www\webserver\jre\bin> keytool -genkey -keystore ..\..\tomcat\conf\keystore -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA

The '-keystore' parameter contains the directory path where the Keystore file will be placed. For the purpose of these instructions it is assumed that the Keystore file will be located in the configuration directory of Tomcat (PROGNOSIS\www\webserver\tomcat\conf) and that PROGNOSIS is installed in the default location.
Once the command is run the following questions will be asked:
Enter Keystore Password
What is your first and last name?
What is the name of your organization unit?
What is the name of your organization?
What is the name of your city or locality?
What is the name of your state or province?
What is the two-letter country code of this unit?
Is this correct?
Enter key password for

NOTE: By default, Tomcat expects the password 'changeit' for both the Keystore file and its specific entry in the Keystore. If a different password is used, it will need to be specified again later in the Tomcat configuration. It is important that the same password is used for both the Keystore and the Tomcat entry. When prompted for the first/last name input the host name instead.

Configure SSL connector in Apache Tomcat
Once the Keystore has been set up correctly, open the 'server.xml' file, which is located in the PROGNOSIS/www/webserver/tomcat/conf folder path, in a plain text editor, such as Notepad. Add one more Connector element between the existing HTTP Connector (default is ) and the Engine Name statements.  The following shows the text that needs to be inserted;
Make a backup before you modify this file

This instructs Tomcat to listen for SSL connections on port 8443 and assumes that the Keystore file is located in Tomcat's 'conf' folder. If a password other than 'changeit' is used when generating the key, then the keystorePass value will also need to be changed. When finished, restart Tomcat.
Further details are available at the Apache Tomcat site:
http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.0-doc/ssl-howto.html

Use HTTPS URL
Start the Web browser and request https://:8443/prognosis. The browser will warn about a self-signed certificate it cannot verify, but it will be able to establish a connection.

It is important that you follow the configuration guide to setup the PROGNOSIS user on CM. This ensures that the correct permissions are granted for the SAT login. The permission settings are quite important as if the user has too many rights, more security challenges are required - hence potentially causing some of the issues you are seeing. Can you confirm that you setup the PROGNOSIS user in CM as per the documentation and did not reuse an existing login?

PVM queries the status of the Avaya enviroment via SAT we DO NOT configure anything we just report on your system, and if you have a route pattern programmed in the system but nothing is actually connected to it (trunks) then it will show as down. I would verify and clean up your database as this will resolve quite a few problems.

You should only see 2 logins as far as Prognosis is concerned and they will be the account you created for SAT conectivity.
I am not sure what these other logins are, did you by any chance have other software installed prior to PVM? I can say with certainty that it is not the software initiating the login attempts. Did you by any chance have VMM installed on this server prior to PVM?

I am sseeing multiple login failures from the Prognosis server IP to the CM5 throughout the day. The format is:
Login cdispla at Mar 1 08:26:14 on apsserver02 from rhost=10.172.11.138 via telnet
I do not recognoze this account so I am a little concerned. We are seseing 3-4 of these per hour and they are occuring throughout the day. Some attempts have the login ID as 712cff0, others cdispla.
Because this login attempt originates from the Prognosis server, I am wondering if I might have missed something when Prognosis was installed.
We are using a different account in the VoIP Monitor PBX setup. That account is connecting just fine.
Users are not reporting any problems with Prognosis.
We are at the current version of Prognosis.
The Prognosis server is dedicated to Prognosis. There are no apparent server or application errors present. There are no apparent instances of users logging on to the Prognosis server.
Anyone have any idea what might be causing these login failures originating from the Prognosis server?

Firstly there are different thresholds that VoIP Monitor employs. They are all defined in the User guide that comes with the installation.

Firstly you need to see if there are any alerts. When you look at the "Troubleshoot Open Alerts" link are there any alerts in this page?

If there are alerts have you setup the alert email in the VoIP Monitor Configuration tool? Did you put the address of the SMTP server in correctly? You need one that does not require authentication to send emails.

Can you confirm your SNMP trap receiver is working correctly?

Try looking to see at the trunk that associated with that route-pattern. You can see in the route-pattern display the associated trunk groups for that route-pattern that is down or when you click on the route pattern details link. Check the status of the trunks. If all trunks are down, this is why the route-pattern is down. You will need to log into CM to fix the trunks.

The issue could be the memory - the recommend is 2GB.

Unfortunately in the current release IE is the only supported browser. This will change in future releases.

If you still get the blank screens after upgrading to more memory please inform us.

I am giving this product a second look. The initial 250 limit was hard to use in evaluating a 4500 IP end stations environment.

I installed the latest patch and will let it run for a few days to view the reports.

From a MAC, OSX 10.6.2, Safari and FireFox 3.6, blank screen
Windows XP fully patched, with IE8, have an operational screen for a while, then and unexplained blank screen.
On all Machines, Java is up to date.

When I do have a screen to view the data, the data renders VERY VERY slowly.

Product is running on a dell server with 1GB RAM, 3.06Xeon Proc. with WIN2K3R2. Do I need a beefier box?

it will only work with English version. There is info from support:

"the issue is not really on the regional setting but more specifically it relates to the way the product handles specific characters that are not "Latin"[...]"

You can't currently set up aliases in VoIP monitor only, however VoIP Monitor displays the name of the device as administered in CM. So for example if you name your gateway "Augusta G450" in the media gateway form (change media-gateway x) under the Name: field this will show up a more meaninful description in the UI.

This can also apply to trunks and route patterns using the Name field in CM - i.e. "Trunk to Augusta CM", "E911 Route pattern" etc...

Does this help?

Our company (along with many other I think you'll find), cannot use this product until it supports SSL connections. Our security policy simply won't allow it. In my opinion this should your #1 priority for this product. I also agree with other posters here who would like to see the ability to restrict access to Prognosis via AD groups.

SIP phones are not officially supported, however PROGNOSIS can receive the RTCP packets from SIP phones. The phones in SIP mode do not have any data on CM - it is all on SES/PPM, so we cannot get access to that information. You can only monitor voice quality.

We are investigating SIP Session Manager support in the near future.

It really depends what you are trying to search for, for "Reports" you can search node name or report name using "*" as the wildcard most other areas you will NOT be able to however the best way is to insert the "*" into your search and see if you get any info back. If you can tell me where within the software you are trying to use the wildcard in your search I will be able to give you a more definitive answer.

Thank you for the informatino.

In regards to the packet loss, we have checked all settings and confirmed that they are locked to 100MB, Full Duplex.

The other interesting thing that we have found is that the only time we are seeing the issue is when the call comes through the Cisco Gateway and then queues to hold music in the Avaya. Once the call is answered, then there is no packet loss. If the call is answered straight away, no packet loss....

Very interesting indeed... But we are working on a few different scenarios to see what is actually causing the issue...

I would like to ask why you want a separate off box database?

For a bigger installation there is a product called IP Telephony Manager which enables exporting to CSV and connecting to a separate ODBC database, however this is used for reporting only as the database in only one way, and the replay functionality is not available

The IP Telephony Manager product stores a separate database that collects information from multipe IP Telephony Manager monitoring nodes and stores its own database.

In response to:

1) PROGNOSIS has a tool called IP Telephony Manager which supports multivendor PBX monitoring (Avaya/Cisco/Nortel) so this may be of use isolating you issue with a Cisco gateway. It provides a superset of the functionality of the VoIP monitor and can monitor the Cisco gateway similar to the way VoIP monitor works with Avaya.

2) There are many causes for packet loss, however the simple thing to check is the speed of the connection. Set the NIC to 100Mb full duplex rather than Auto negotiation on the switch and the devices (gateway and medpro). This may help.

Hello all,

I have 2 things which I wish someone clear up for me or let me know how to configure them -

We have a couple of IP trunks from Cisco Gateways to our Avaya G650's.

1) It is showing the Cisco gateways at the far end of the IP trunks as the IP address and a status of "Unknown". Can we change this so that they type is "Cisco Gateway" or something similar.
2) We are seeing a large packet loss between Cisco Gateway and Medpro and we are stuck why this would occur, even when the Cisco Gateway and Medpro are on the same switch....

We are running CM3.1....

we tried install this software on W2k3 and W2k8 w/o success. We used LocalAdmin rights accounts. We always got the same message as described in previous posts in this thread by other users. All software is the newest versions.

What is the solution of this strange problem? In wvlog.txt there is nothing helpful.

Hi Erik,
Sorry for slow response. Can I have you run an IRFAX for me.
An IRFAX will compile the configuration and settings as well as any error for Prognosis Voip Monitor.
Browse to the location C:\Program Files\PROGNOSIS VoIP Monitor\Server\Configuration and double-click the file called irfax.bat. This will bring up a DOS screen and it will run through some commands and it may take up to two minutes or so. Once it is done, it will close out and give you two files located in the same directory. These files will be called irfax...zip and irfax.txt. If you can e-mail me those attachments to info.usa@prognosis.com, I will have our engineer investigate further. We do not seem to experience this issue at other sites that Prognosis is installed on. Yours is unique at this point. Thanks

Do note that when I drill-down to a station, the station does appear UP.
So in the Monitoring screen all IP stations are "down", in the detail screen of an IP station the status is "UP".
Thats is not logical if you ask me....

Hi Calvin,

At the moment we only have 74 stations defined in the system.
So far from the 250 limit.

My question is why it is reporting fine on all analog stations but not on IP stations??
And if I drill down on an IP station, it shows UP althought it shows down on the first view.

Hi Epalle,
Most likely cause for the stations showing down could be due to licensing. If you loaded the 250 phone license, it will only report on the first 250 devices. Anything after that would not not show correctly. Unfortunately, you cannot pick which device to monitor. You might want to try the 60 trials with 1000 devices. This might work better for your enviromnent if you have 250 devices.

If the VMM server was still running, it would have port 5005 in use, preventing PROGNOSIS from opening the port to listen for RTCP traffic.

If you get into this situation, stopping VMM is not quite enough - you will need to restart PROGNOSIS to get it to attempt to open port 5005 again.

To stop the VMM server, you would need to stop the service in Control Panel.

Hi,

Just installed Prognosis and I have a question concering the status field of IP phones.
Al IP phones appear to be DOWN but most of them are up.
I'm sitting next to a working phone that appears to be "down" in Prognosis.
When I click on a phone to see the details the status is UP.
What do I need to do to fix this???

Note: Analog stations appear OK (aka UP).

Thanks,

This did not work. The system does not come up on the software. I even loaded a CDR program on the PC and set up port 50000 and it worked to that system. I uninstalled it and tried again. It still does not work. I have tried to get support but Prognosis is very hard to work with. I am meeting with my sales person tomorrow and will let him know the troubles I am having with tech support. This is a show stopper for support.'

I have the latest R2 installed and noticed that every time I configure a specific CM 3.14 pbx with prognosis (SAT terminal access only for now), CPU utilization goes to and stays anywhere from 80% to 100% and never goes down. is this an issue where something that has to be changed on the Avaya CM so that this does not happen ?

There is no way for you to see what voice stream on the medpro board is associated with what digital extension, this is due to the fact that the digital device does generate the RTCP stream but the medpro converts the signal.

The 250 Free entitlement is only for 1 pbx you can download the 60 day trial license and that will let you monitor upto 1000 devices and 2 Pabx's however it will only work for 60days.

You can leverage a Avaya's network region configuration to do this. Instead of configuring PROGNOSIS as a RTCP destination for the "entire" PBX, configure PROGNOSIS as a RTCP destination for one or more specific network regions.

The config utility comes up with the message that I do not have administrator privileges and so the changes cannot be applied. As such, I cannot configure the software. Please advise...

Thanks for the suggestion. It was the admin user name and password. If I have admin rights to the PC, is there a way for me to change the password to be my network login and password?

ok i assume you don't understand me correctly...

I am the Sysadmin.
We have a huge domain with AD and a security group for prognosis.
We set up Prognosis and wondering about the possibility that every domain user can log into prognosis. We already set up a security group, but where should i attach them? Do I use they for Service start up? Do i have to restrict file security acces for ../program files/prognosis ?

Thanks 4 help

We use "Active directyory" to authenticate user rights, so if you wanted to restrict a person or group of people then this would have to be changed by your network administrator for the domain the Prognosis server is logged in to. There is no security configuration file within the software itself.

Scottie,
Sorry you are having so many issues logging in to the software, we however do not have a default username and password to give you access to prognosis , we use "active directory", I suggest you contact your system administrator to take a look at your user rights etc.
If this is not possible then the other alternative is to uninstall and reinstall the software with your user credentials. Prior to going this route it may be advisable to try logging in to the software from a different pc or have a collegue with admin privilages log in.

I suspect the local account you're using to login into the WebUI
      (a) has a password which has expired
      (b) the account is disabled

I suggest you check the account settings with the administrator.

Also, can you login into the Win 2003 server using the same local account?

Can you login to the WebUI using the administrator account?

There are a couple of things we need to verify as to why your not seeing the pbx:

Step1: Verify that the service are started and running.

Step2: Verify you have implemented the new license keys.

Step3: Verify you have the correct IP address for that CM.

I've attached screen shots with regards to the 3 steps mentioned above.

After reading and going over the screen shots of the Prognosis dployment on CM 4.0 I would recheck the user account you created for prognosis. It seems that the RTCP stream destination point has been configured correctly however either the SAT user profile is misconfigured,

What it should be: Also see pg's 17 & 19 in the install guide
For Avaya versions 4 - 5.0 the Add Group page will ask for a Group Name and Group
Number. The Group Name is normally the user profile name, e.g. prof18. The Group Number ties
the new login group to the SAT User-Profile that was created earlier The value for this is obtained
by adding the Access Mask Base (default value 1000) to the user profile number, e.g. use Group
Number 10018 for User Profile prof18.

We should have "RM" access for all categories within that user profile.

If you need any futher assistence please contact me.

Going through the log it does show that you downloaded the 250 license entilement and Prognosis is seeing 271 devices.
see below:

2009-09-24 09:39:00 00004047 liclimp 00444 IRNETRTR 9.5.3 002304 - License entitlement for phones has been exceeded. Current phone licenses used: 271 Current phone licenses entitled: 250

Even thought you exceeded the license count from day 1 the software still runs for an additional 14 day's, you may want to download the 60 day 1000 device trial software, which would correct your problem, one thing to bear in mind we look at Digital (4 to 1 weight count), analog (10 to 1 weight count: and IP (1 to 1 weight count), if you still feel that we are NOT counting the devices correctly please contact us and we will be more than happy to troubleshoot this futher.

In a PBX, the CDR buffer size varies by system on number of call records. You can program your system to not allow calls or divert calls if you cannot collect cdr records. Please refer to the Feature Description and Implementation Manual - Call Detail Recording in your documentation set for additional details. You can administer your system to do one of the various options described in that document when the CDR buffer is full.

You will need to clear your CDR buffer to re-establish the link with PROGNOSIS. Hope this helps.

Applying the new license key doesnot require re-booting the server. When a new license key is applied the service automatically re-starts when the user clicks on the apply button.

As has been mentioned by london2jay I'm suspecting the new license didnot get applied.

Going over your WVLog.txt file I see the following:

2009-10-01 03:07:00 00004047 liclimp 00444 IRNETRTR 9.5.3 001068 - License entitlement for phones has been exceeded. Current phone licenses used: 329 Current phone licenses entitled: 250
2009-10-01 03:07:00 00004049 liclimp 00462 IRNETRTR 9.5.3 001068 - Trial period license in effect. 0 Days remaining, license has expired

This tells me that the new 60 day license you downloaded has not been implemented. To implement the new key, log into the Prognosis server and in configuration you will drill into the license portion and copy and paste the new license key you downloaded. Make sure the prognosis services are set to automatic and reboot the server, this should clear your problem, if your still having issues please call the office 303-390-8700 for additional assistance.

Hi

I had a 250 user license but due to the number of digital phones I exceeded this. The Prognosis server was running fine but in the last few days it has stopped. I had read that if the license was exceeded then the server stopped after 14 days.

I have downloaded a trial 60 day licence for 100 phones and installed that but the Prognosis server wil still not run. I have rebooted the server but the Prognosis service just stops after a few minutes.

here is the last section from the wvlog.txt

I am getting confusing results from the QoS replay screen. The MOS scoring does not reflect what is reported in the finshed streams screen.

I've attached 2 screen shots one of the finished streams and the other of one of the replays.

If you look at the top line of the finished streams it reports a minimum MOS score of 3.33. If you look at the replay of the QoS Replay. the MOS never drops below 3.8

I am looking through the Avaya finsihed streams and there seem to be several issues.

I have found the workaround to the calls not deplaying but if I click on the details link for a particular call then I get varying responses. Sometimes I get the display sometimes I'll get 1 of the pie charts or maybe 2 or 3 or 4. Othertimes I will get nothing. Sometimes I'll get some of the figures that relate to the pie charts and sometimes not.

Clicking the refresh button invariably means I lose any informtaion.

clicking on the back forward stop controls on the tab has no affect at all.

My only option appears to be to close the tab and try again.

Also how can I get the call time displayed in the correct timezone. I have set the PBX timezone correctly in the configuration utility but the calls are using the timezone of the Prognosis server.

All in all this feels like a buggy application.

I have set this up to monitor our CM5 system which

At the moment I have an alert for route pattern 155 that says it is degraded. The reason it is degraded is that we have removed the definition of route pattern 155 and it no longer has anything in it. But according to Prognosis it has 4 trunk groups defined in it.

The route pattern is not (and never has been) in the measured selection route pattern table but it is still showing up as measured. However the 6 other route patterns in the measured selection table are still not showing up in Prognosis as measured

Additionally a trunk group that we have removed is still showing up in Prognosis.

How/when will Prognosis reflect the changes made onto the phone system?

I also have the 2602 boards and CM5 and reporting the same issue using the 250 user licence.

When will this patch be made available?

When I open a browser to access the host I am receiving the following Java error. Java virtual machines running in the same process caused and error. Java TM plug in fatal error. If I access the host through remote desktop I can get to Prognosis. Any thoughts?
